A scale gives you one number and no explanation. Two kilograms down could be fat, water, or muscle you spent months building. dat.form reads your weight, your tape measurements and your progress photographs together — and tells you which it was.
dat.form is an Android app, currently in closed testing on Google Play. It is not publicly available yet.
What it does
Six things, done properly, rather than thirty done approximately.
Fat or muscle?
From your tape measurements, dat.form estimates body composition and tells you whether what changed was fat or lean mass. It says “estimated” every single time, because it is.
Goals with a real timeframe
Set a target and the app works out how long it should take for your body, at three paces. Ask for something unrealistic and it will say so — and then let you do it anyway.
Trends that mean something
Weight, body fat, lean mass and every measurement you track, over one month, three, six, or everything. Watch the line, not the day.
Honest progress
A ring shows how far you have come and whether you are ahead of or behind where a steady effort would have put you. When there is not enough data to say, it says that instead of guessing.
A coach that only changes its wording
Three voices — Data Driven, Encouraging, Balanced. They change how results are phrased and never what the results are.
What it will not do
dat.form will not tell you what a number means for your health, will not diagnose anything, and will not congratulate you for progress you have not made. Body composition estimated from tape measurements is an estimate, and the app says so every time it shows one.
It is not a medical device. It does not replace advice from a qualified professional.
Your data
Everything you record stays on your phone. There is no account to create and nothing to sign in to. Your photographs are stored in the app’s private storage — not your camera roll — and are never uploaded. This version of the app has no internet permission at all, so it cannot send your information anywhere even if it tried.
You can export an encrypted backup with a passphrase you choose, and you can erase everything from inside the app at any time.
DATspire
DATspire is the brand behind dat.form. The app is the first thing it has shipped. Apparel under the dat.form name is in development; there is nothing to buy yet, and this page will say so plainly when there is.
